Product Description
You get 5 nipples/order Easy to use item to create your own custom sanitary waterers from 5 gallon buckets to PVC gravity fed waterers! Save money by making your own waterers from used household items. Each nipple has a 360 degree stainless steel nipple that will work from any angle. Simply drill a 5/16 inch hole in bottom of container or PVC pipe, use a little epoxy or pipe thread tape to make water tight and screw nipple in. Chickens from day old to grown will train themselves to use the nipples in minutes - If you experience any problems with getting them to use it, let us know as we have MANY tips that work! We recommend one nipple for every 3 birds or so. Use a container or bucket with a lid and water will remain sanitary for days or between refills, no more poop in the water or having to clean those nasty waterers every couple of days. Customize your waterers to fit your individual needs. Please note: When used in thin walled plastic such as a bucket nipples can generally be removed after instalation and moved to another device. If they are installed in thick walled plastic such as PVC pipe then the thread of the nipple acts as a tap and the nipple can be removed but cannot be re-used again and the threads will no longer be good. You will however be able to insert a new nipple into the old hole! Any questions on their use or installation please write a message to the seller for help!

Chicken Waterer Solution:
Drill 3 proper size holes (5/16) in a standard 5 gallon bucket. Wrap nipple threads once or twice with teflon tape and screw into holes. Hang bucket around 16-24" off the ground 'somehow' (that's another story, used a spare ladder & chain), fill with water & cover the top. Don't worry about training chickens, just take away their existing water source & they'll figure it out very quickly. Works great. Will order more. Not sure what to do in the winter, but 7-8 months of the year this is the answer. Setup two buckets to water 12 hens. Now instead of having to take water out every day or two; I fill the two 5 gallon buckets about once a week and the water stays clean. Nice.

I have always used ground based waterers; which can become messy, gross and not a lot of fun to clean out. This product eliminates all those problems. The chickens always have fresh clean water and makes cleaning and refilling a lot easier. I wish I had these years ago.
I have a bucket set-up, but for my small backyard flock that I currently have I created a bottle set-up. I took a 2 liter soda bottle, drilled a hole in the cap, then epoxyed the nipple in it. Afterwards I poked a hole in the bottom of the bottle, for air to come in, then flipped it upside down and hung it on the side of the coop with a wire. Basically a big hamster water bottle for chickens.

UPDATE: These are obviously a cheap, inferior, rip-off of the "real thing". But, I did try to glue in the damaged nipples (damaged due to following the instructions included, and on this product page). Gluing with either epoxy or high quality silicone does not work - will not adhere to the PVC. AGAIN, the seller indicated that they changed the product description, but it still contains the INCORRECT 5/16" size. At a minimum, it must be 11/32", but even then .... they DO NOT SELF TAP!!! Just look at the threads - they aren't even screw threads, they are parallel!!! Tried almost (almost) identical ones from cconly.com (also cheaper) which ARE a screw thread; and, their instructions indeed call for the larger drill hole; and, ...... THEY WORK GREAT (NOT these)!!!! Just add some teflon pipe tape and they screw/tap in, don't leak, etc. Did this in both 1 1/4" PVC and in the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket. Sorry BAFX, you are carrying an inferior product; no, really, a product that does not work. Not sure where you got the other reviews.
Shipping - these were shipped extremely fast for not being amazon prime. Received within a few days of ordering.
Before explaining the problem with these, I will say that the seller was very responsive in dealing with this; however, their main concern seemed to be in getting a good rating to the point I was told that they would replace these IF I promised to give a good review? Huh? That didn't set well.
I will say that ultimately they did refund the complete cost of these including shipping.
The Problem:
Their instructions, both on the amazon product page, and those included with these, indicate drilling a 5/16" hole and essentially taping it into either the bottom of a bucket, or PVC. I was trying to use PVC. Well, these measure OVER 3/8" for the screw portion. I first tried the recommended 5/16" ..... NO WAY! I tried forcing and using their socket method ..... stripped. Okay, now I tried to find a "tap" for this odd thread - 28tpi .... nope. Tried again with 5/16 ..... stripped. Again and again, these failed per their instructions.
I never got to the testing to see if they even work!
The only way you could possibly mount these is to drill the exact diameter of the threads, perhaps a 64th over, and just epoxy or silicone them in (which they actually state you need to do anyway - makes me wonder; should only need a very small amount of teflon or silicone if this thing is suppose to screw in.)
What was interesting is that the seller offered no "manufacturer recommended" installation; nor, any alternate form of installation. I just remember in kindergarten learning that you can't fit a square peg in a round hole ..... or here - a 5 pound circle into a 3 pound hole.
Well, I don't know what to say. The seller swears he hasn't had a problem before. I am now very skeptical of the positive reviews, given the one 2-star (before mine) and the rest 5-star).
I do want to try these (or at least similar), so I followed the referral from the 2-star reviewer to cconly.com (also on Ebay). They have similar, very close, though not identical it appears, ones coming at a a cost of $2.25 for 5 from the auction. (I lucked out on the auction ..... these sell for $9 and ship for free from their web site). We'll see if I get the same problem, or what their instructions say.
These WOULD have been worth every penny, IF I had even gotten a chance to try them. I've heard that it can be hard to get chickens to use these if they haven't since chicks.
